Downing College

Fine art photography of the Maitland Robinson Library, Downing College Cambridge presented as part of the large Illuminating Cambridge Libraries series. Downing’s library is unique in that its collection runs around a central octagon, with a spiral staircase centred beneath the cupola. Many desks are dotted along the windows, with views out to the gardens and Downing’s Heong Gallery. Of particular photographic interest is one of the few self-portraits of the artist…

This photographic collection of the library at Downing College Cambridge was photographed in 2019 and contains 41 images, a small selection of which are shown below and available as giclee prints in many sizes.

Created and presented with thanks to the librarians and by kind permission of the Master and Fellows of the College. Click here to learn more about the library.
